Do we trial the tools with only one child?
Teachers may trial the tools with more than one child in their class. Implementation may take place in individual, paired, small group or whole class contexts.
When planning implementation, consider carefully how to maximise opportunities for observation and documentation of student responses.
You will also need to consider the need for teacher interactions (such as asking questions to elicit information about the student's thinking) with students as they complete the task.
You may also want to consider the benefits of observing student interactions as they work alongside each other to complete tasks.
Who implements the task – the regional consultant or the teacher?
The classroom teacher implements the task. The role of the regional personnel is to provide professional learning and support to teachers in implementing the tasks.
How many tasks do we have to implement per child?
At least two of the tasks should be implemented with each student as the tasks are designed to reveal different strengths and skills. A student’s response to one task may be completely different to their response to a different task. To build a more complete profile of the child, teachers should also use the tools for students and for parents.
What documentation is required?
  • At least two annotated work samples per student, with accompanying analysis and planning for teaching and learning (using the teacher recording sheets in the red colour-coded envelope in the GTK Resource Package)
  • A completed Student Information Sheet (in the orange envelope)
  • Evidence of on-going literacy and numeracy achievement. Please see the Implementation page for examples of this type of documentation.
Any additional documentation would be appreciated. This may take the form of:
  • additional work samples from Toolkit tasks or related class work
  • information from parent and/or teacher surveys (see orange envelope of the Resource Package)
  • photographs and/or video footage of students completing the task
  • work samples and student responses to activities planned following implementation and analysis of the Toolkit tasks.
What do I do with my documentation?
